Getting There

I was invited as an instructor in a nature camp, so I was a part of a big group with many children. We travelled around Chiang Mai by vans. We used route 108 from Chiang Mai Airport, then turned right to route 1009 to enter Doi Inthanon National Park. This route ended at Doi Inthanon and Kew Mae Pan was 5 km before it.

Trail

The trail was very comfortable to walk on. It composed of gentle slopes, steps and wooden bridges. At lower altitudes, the trail went under the trees. And at higher altitudes it went through the meadow on the mountain's ridge.

The forest itself

Being in the forest, I really enjoyed the sunlight shining through the leaves, the smells from the trees and the sounds of birds' chirping.

A cracked granite rock on Pha Ngam Noi

This rock really stood out on the cliff. It is one of Kew Mae Pan's signatures.

One Thousand Year Old Rose

This is how the Thai call this plant. It is actually "Red Azalea" or "Rhododendron arboreum." I saw many of them on Kew Mae Pan.

Naphamethinidon and Naphaphonphumisiri Pagodas

The pagodas were built for King Rama 9 and Queen Sirikit. They were on another peak. There was a small trail off the main trail to where I took this picture.

I spent four hours walking slowly and submerged myself into the nature of Kew Mae Pan. This place is suitable for everyone, from young kids to elders. It is a must to visit when you are in Doi Inthanon National Park.

Note

On the day we visited, there was "Inthanon Challenge," so many cyclists were riding their bicycles to Doi Inthanon. This event is held every year. If you are interested, try to search "Inthanon Challenge" on a search engine.
